With all the changes now made, you must tell Linux to reprocess the
innitab for changes (you have your rescue disk handy don't you...). This
is done by issuing the command
telinit q (as root).
If all goes well, you will see your modem lights flash as uugetty rests the modem and "camps" on the line waiting for an incoming call.
Check that there is a uugetty process running by issuing the command
ps -auxw | grep uugetty
You should see something like :-
root 12420 0.0 0.6 88 396 v34 S 17:48 0:00 /sbin/uugetty ttyS1 F38400 vt100
Also look in the syslog (
/var/log/messages) to see if there are
any problems shown there.
Now get a friend to dial in and test out your set up.
