xlockmore

*download (204 Kb)
Version: 4.01-2 Last modified: Wed Mar 19 22:59:44 1997
Architecture: i386
Maintainer:
Dirk Eddelbuettel <edd@debian.org>
Description:
Lock X11 display until password is entered. xlock locks the X server till the user enters his/her password at the keyboard. While xlock is running, all new server connections are refused. The screen saver is disabled. The mouse cursor is turned off. The screen is blanked and a changing pattern is put on the screen. If a key or a mouse button is pressed then the user is prompted for the password of the user who started xlock. xlockmore extends the standard xlock program by adding many more modes that are highly configurable.

Note that under XFree86, the X11 implementation for Linux, Control- Alt-Backspace will defeat the locking mechanism and return your console back unless you put "DontZap" in your XF86Config file. 'xdm' returns to the login prompt. Control-Alt-F1 (among others) will defeat locking mechanism with virtual terminals, so make sure that you are not logged onto any virtual consoles.

Architecture: m68k
Maintainer:
Martin Schulze <joey@debian.org>
Description:
Extended xclock If clocks had been invented in Argentina (southern hemisphere), they would run anti-clockwise. Down there a sundial runs the other way around!

The program is an extension of the standard X clock widget. New features are: Configurable direction of rotation and font support in analog mode.

Version: 2.20-3 Last modified: Thu Mar 13 11:53:02 1997
Architecture: m68k
Maintainer:
Brian Mays <brian@debian.org>
Description:
VT100 emulator for the X window system Rxvt is an 8-bit clean, ANSI-color, xterm replacement that uses significantly less memory than a conventional xterm, mostly since it doesn't support toolkit-style configurability or Tek graphics.

The compilation dependent rxvt features enabled in this package include ANSI-color, scrollbars with arrow buttons, printer-pipe, and XPM backgrounds with on-the-fly scaling.

This package also includes rclock, the smaller/better xclock replacement with appointment scheduling and xbiff functionality.

afterstep

*download (464 Kb)
Version: 0.99pre4-1 Last modified: Fri Mar 7 11:52:05 1997
Architecture: i386
Maintainer:
Neil A. Rubin <nar5@po.cwru.edu>
Description:
A window manager with the NEXTSTEP look and feel. Please note that this is actually version 1.0pre4 of Afterstep. See /usr/doc/afterstep/README.debian. AfterStep is a window manager based on FVWM which attempts to emulate the NEXTSTEP look and feel, while retaining the configurability of its predecessor. It is a continuation of the BowMan window manager project, but the name was changed to reflect the desire that it do more than simply emulate and be a valuable window manager in its own right. Note that this window manager make intensive use of the color palette. If you have only an 8-bit color display, you may wish to look into other options. For 16-bit and up, it is an excellent choice.

The major changes from FVWM are:
* NEXTSTEP-like title bar, title buttons, borders and corners.
* AfterStep's Wharf is a much worked-out version of GoodStuff.
To avoid copyright complications it is not called a "dock."
* NEXTSTEP style menu. However, the menus are not controlled by
applications; they are more of pop-up service lists on the root
window.
* NEXTSTEP style icons. These styles are hard-coded in the
program, which is good for the consistent look of the NEXTSTEP
interface.

Maintainer:
Joe Reinhardt <jmr@debian.org>
Description:
a differential X protocol compressor dxpc is an X protocol compressor designed to improve the speed of X11 applications run over low-bandwidth links (such as dialup PPP connections). The executable in this package can run as either a client or a server.

For this package to be useful, you need to have a compiled dxpc executable running on another computer. If the other computer is a non-debian machine, you may need to obtain the dxpc archive from ftp.x.org and compile it yourself for the non-debian computer. Description:
Allows to start X session applications serially. xscreensaver

*download (217 Kb)
Version: 1.27-2 Last modified: Tue Feb 25 11:54:01 1997
Architecture: i386
Maintainer:
Larry Daffner <vizzie@airmail.net>
Description:
Automatic screensaver for X The purpose of xscreensaver is to display pretty pictures on your screen when it is not in use, in keeping with the philosophy that unattended monitors should always be doing something interesting, just like they do in the movies.

The benefit that this program has over the combination of the xlock and xautolock programs is the ease with which new graphics hacks can be installed: you don't need to recompile this program to add a new display mode, you just change some resource settings. Any program which can be invoked in such a way that it draws on the root window of the screen can now be used as a screensaver without modification. The programs that are being run as screensavers don't need to have any special knowledge about what it means to be a screensaver.

Description:
Nextstep-like look for X apps using the Athena widgets The neXtaw library is a plug-in replacement for any Xaw library that will give a Nextstep-like look to X applications using the Xaw library (scrollbars, buttons, menus, etc. look like Nextstep).

Features
* nearly all widgets have a Nextstep look;
* menus that don't fit in the screen (like that one in xfontsel) can be
scrolled;
* toggles can have an indicator in the left, telling if it's a checkbutton
or a radiobutton;
* menubuttons can have an indicator in the right, telling if it's a
selection menu or an action menu;
* scrollbar arrows can be removed through resources.

Description:
A window manager with the NEXTSTEP look and feel.

These styles are hard-coded in the
program, which is good for the consistent look of the NEXTSTEP
interface.

It has two large fonts built into it, but it can animate most other fonts that contain all of the digits. It can also do some funky psychedelic colormap cycling, and can use the "shape" extension so that the window is shaped like the digits.
