To resolve this error, first open Control Panel and double click on
Multimedia. On the audio tab, set the Preferred Playback and Recording source to
your sound card. Press apply and OK. If the Multimedia Section is
grayed out, then do the
following:
Click Start, Select Run. Type
"SYSEDIT" and press OK. Several small
windows will appear in one large window. Click SYSTEM.INI
window to bring it to the front of all the other windows.
The [boot] section should be the first section and should
have the following lines without additions:
- sound.drv=mmsound.drv
- drivers=mmsystem.dll
If these lines are missing, you will need to type them in at the end of the
[boot] section. If similar lines are there, but do not say the correct thing
such as a line that says "drivers=power.drv" you will need to comment that line
out by placing a semicolon(;) at the beginning of the line and then recreate it
the way it should be.
Scroll down to the [386Enh] section.
Look for lines that begin with device and end with .386 (example:
device=bsbpd.386). Comment out any such line by placing a semi-colon in
front of it (example: ;device=vsbpd.386).
Scroll down to the [drivers] section. This section should
contain the following two lines:
- wave=mmsystem.dll
- midi=mmsystem.dll
If wave or midi refer to other .dll files, place a ";" at the beginning of
those lines and recreate them as they should be. If either of these lines is
missing, add it. If there are any lines referring to "wave1=…" or "Midi1=…"
comment them out by placing the semicolon (;) at the beginning of the line.
Next scroll to the [mci] section and look for the following:
- waveaudio=mciwave.drv
- sequencer=mciseq.drv
- cdaudio=mcicda.drv
If any of the above lines has any extra characters such as a number, delete
that character.
Place a semi-colon before any reference to mcixing,
mcimix*.
Click File on the top menu bar. Click save.
Click File again. Click on exit. Restart the
system. |
